Missing Man Table
A missing man table, also known as a fallen comrade table, is a ceremony and memorial that is set up in military dining facilities of the United States Armed Forces and during official dining functions, in honor of fallen, missing, or imprisoned military service members.

The Table Set for One
The table is small, set for one,
Symbolizing the frailty of one alone.
The tablecloth is white, for the purity of their intentions
To respond to their country’s call to arms.
The single rose displayed reminds us of the lives given,
And the loved ones who keep the faith.
The red ribbon tied prominently is a symbol of determination
To account for those missing and bring them home.
A slice of lemon on the plate reminds us of their bitter fate,
While the salt on the plate represents the tears of loved ones.
The glass is inverted, for they cannot toast with us tonight,
And the chair is empty—they are not here.
Let us remember and never forget,
Until they return, or we find closure.
